A separate lane for micromobility was tested on Lutfiy Street — it is planned to apply this experience on other streets as well

🚲 Bicycles, electric scooters, kick scooters and other micromobility vehicles are becoming increasingly active participants in urban traffic. This is particularly noticeable against the background of the growing number of private vehicle users and delivery services.

However, when there is no separate infrastructure for them, a natural problem arises: users of micromobility vehicles are forced to move in the same space as cars on the roadway and as pedestrians on the sidewalks.

🚗🚶 Moving at different speeds in the same area creates inconvenience for everyone — pedestrians, drivers, as well as users of bicycles, scooters and kick scooters.

🛴 In order to separate these flows from each other and create a separate space for each road user, the Traffic Organisation Centre of Tashkent City organised a separate traffic lane for micromobility vehicles on a trial basis on a 2.4-kilometre section of Lutfiy Street.

🚲 This lane is intended for bicycles, electric scooters, electric kick scooters and other micromobility vehicles. Such an approach makes it possible to regulate traffic and reduce the intersection of vehicle and pedestrian flows.

📍 The pilot project on Lutfiy Street has shown positive results: it has been observed that the new solution is convenient and understandable for users, and that it has helped to practically assess the possibilities of creating separate infrastructure for micromobility in urban conditions.

🛡 In future projects, special attention will be paid to further increasing the safety of micromobility lanes. Taking into account road conditions, it is planned to physically separate such lanes from car traffic with the help of special delineators, separators and other protective elements. This will serve to create a safer movement environment for users of micromobility vehicles and reduce the risk of direct collisions with traffic flows.

🔹 The main goal is to form a clear and understandable system in which cars move in their own flow, pedestrians retain a convenient area for themselves on the sidewalk, and bicycles and other micromobility vehicles have a separate and safe direction.

🛣 Based on the results of the trial, specialists of the Centre are currently also studying other streets and areas of the capital where a similar solution can be applied.

🌆 The experience gained on Lutfiy Street will serve as a basis for the gradual development of micromobility infrastructure in Tashkent — in areas where road conditions make it possible to organise such a solution in a safe and convenient manner for all road users.
